More than 800 warehouses, and most of the business is project based. Esmaeel Moradi, Director of Global Supply Chain Strategy at WESCO, shares how his team models problems no off-the-shelf algorithm covers.

WESCO distributes electrical, communications and utility products across industrial, construction and data center segments. Network design, inventory and transportation each got solved in a separate tool, then the results were pulled out and stitched together by hand before anyone could present them.

What that looks like in Lyric Studio now:

  • A custom algorithm for offcut waste on cut-to-length wire reels
  • Inventory and transportation modeled together in one scenario
  • Trade-offs settled for WESCO, not for one team

Capacity planning and labor planning are next, published as apps his stakeholders run themselves. The word before Lyric Studio, in Esmaeel's telling: disconnected.
